The 1602 and the later 2002 were initially designed as simply a shorter 2 door version of the attractive New Class sedan. But, after releasing these little boxes on the market in the late ‘60s, BMW realized they had so much more on their hands. The automotive press raved about them, saying their name in the same breath as Alfa Romeo and Porsche, and drivers everywhere started to associate BMW with the performance image they had lost long ago.
Whether it’s a 2002 “roundie” sitting like a bulldog at a stoplight, or a gorgeous 2800CS rolling down the boulevard, we cannot get enough of these teutonic sports sedans. Perfectly proportioned with crisp lines and beautifully balanced brightwork, they present a truly fantastic way to travel. And although their early 4s and later 6s are some of the finest engines ever made, a Moment electric drivetrain makes them truly the ultimate driving machine.
